MIXING WITH STAVANGER DUO GLOBOX

After having recorded their EP in Urban Sound, I've started mixing the debut EP by noise / math-rock duo Globox. Watch out!

Orchestra Recording Session, Fagerborg Church

Had the pleasure of recording the new orchestra piece, «Kortmesse langt borte frå», by Bjørn Morten Christophersen in Fagerborg Church the 29th and 30th of October. The piece was composed as a commentary work to Joseph Haydn's Nelson Mass, and each of Christophersen's pieces were performed in between Haydn's movements.

Together with technicial assistent Emil Kraugerud, I based the recording on a Decca Tree, which was placed approximately 1,5 meter behind and 3,5 meters above the conductor, in order to capture the orchestra as a whole with as few microphones as possible. For the Decca tree, I used three DPA 4006 omni-figured microphones. I also used two DPA 4011 cardioid michrophones as spot-microphones for the strings, in addition to a Wunder CM12 on the violins and two Wunder CM67s as vocal spot-microphones. For preamps, we used the RME Micstasy, and splitted the recorded signals to both a hard-drive recorder (Joeco BBR1B) and to a Macbook Pro via RME UCX.

Christophersen's and Haydn's pieces were conducted by Ensemble 96's conductor and musical leader Nina T. Karlsen, and both pieces were performed by a variety of groups and musicians: Ensemble 96, Ensemble Allegria, trumpet players Jonas Haltia and Axel Sjöstedt from Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Ditte M. Bræin (S), Mari Askvik (A), Robert Lind (T), Olle Holmgren (B), Lars Notto Birkeland (organ) and Anders Kregnes Hansen (timpani). The concerted was funded by Norsk Komponistforening, Norges Korforbund and Kulturrådet.
